Why I Love Solo Hiking, And I Think You Will Too

While hiking with friends and family can be fun, there's something uniquely rewarding about hitting the trail solo. Here’s why I love solo hiking (and I think you will too).

Freedom and Flexibility

When I’m solo hiking, I get to choose my own route and set my own pace. I’m free to wander beyond the beaten path to explore pretty landscapes and discover hidden gems. I can also decide how fast or slow I want to walk, which is perfect for days when I want to linger in the forest a little while longer.

Connection with Nature

Another great reason why I love solo hiking is it gives me a chance to connect with the natural world around me. I love engaging in nature-based activities like grounding, forest bathing, and wildlife watching. Some of my favorite moments are watching groups of deer graze at dusk and walking through a misty forest after a gentle rain shower.

Serenity and Solitude

Solo hiking gives me a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. As a busy mom to kids and an adventurous kitty, sometimes I need a little peace and quiet outside of the home. The serenity and solitude of the forest helps me to relax, release, and unwind after a long day. So, if you’ve had a taxing day (or week), try going for a low-impact solo hike in the peace and quiet of a forest or nature preserve. I promise you’ll feel calm and refreshed afterward 😌

Increased Self-Confidence

With each mile I walk, I prove to myself that I am capable, resilient, and resourceful. I’m empowered to step outside of my comfort zone to embrace uncertainty and conquer my fears—and, to me, that is priceless.

There are so many wonderful reasons to love solo hiking. If you haven’t tried it for yourself yet, considering getting in solo hike sometime this week if the weather’s nice. You just might enjoy the peace and solitude… happy trails!
